I've been super busy finishing up a book project, but I am still exercising and eating well. I haven't lost a ton more weight, though, since I weighed in last...so I should probably be doing a little better. I've lost 17.1 lbs total! Yay -- still about 13 to go.<br />

We just got back from a little vacation, and I definitely didn't eat as little as I should have. I got a little exercise, but not much! I am not going to go back and try to figure out what my weight was exactly since I missed last week, but I am only down a couple of pounds for the last two weeks.Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597287419708465911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5731246884120508407.post-6817996313227476022014-09-02T11:22:00.003-06:002014-09-02T11:22:47.604-06:00Week 7 Weigh inI lost 1.2 lbs this week, bringing the total weight lost up to 10.8 lbs. Wish it was more, but I ended up missing a workout this week and ate a little too much healthy stuff. Still good foods, just TOO much of them. Blasted delicious melons.Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597287419708465911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5731246884120508407.post-60645847742561831022014-08-25T09:16:00.000-06:002014-08-25T09:16:06.667-06:00Week 6 Weigh-inYay! I lost 2 lbs this week. It has been hard for me to reach 2 lbs lost in a week, so whenever it happens I get really excited. Hoping for two more this week! I have two and a half weeks until my family takes a trip to St. George. My goal was to have lost 16 lbs total by then. I'm thinking that may be tough to reach now, but hopefully I'll be down 5 more lbs by then.<br />
<br />
Total weight lost = 9.6 lbsJennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597287419708465911noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5731246884120508407.post-29927869201719684252014-08-19T10:41:00.001-06:002014-08-19T10:41:44.700-06:00Week 5 Weigh-inI only lost ONE pound this week. It is frustrating to lose so little, but I am glad to be losing.<br />
<br />
Total weight lost = 7.6 lbsJennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597287419708465911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5731246884120508407.post-73677936728762987722014-08-11T09:31:00.001-06:002014-08-11T09:31:10.045-06:00Weight loss: Week 4Worked out 6x a week and ate well. I've been eating BIG salads lately, and I love them. I feel so great after eating them. This week I lost 1.8 lbs. At this rate I am not really on track to lose 10 lbs a month. It'll likely take me four months rather than three to lose thirty pounds. But I'm okay with that if that's the case. I'm just going to keep plugging along doing everything I can to make it happen. I just want to stay consistent.<br />
<br />
Total weight loss so far: 6.6 lbsJennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597287419708465911noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5731246884120508407.post-84017831325083418672014-08-04T09:20:00.001-06:002014-08-04T09:21:12.878-06:00Weight Loss, week 3I lost 2.2 lbs this week! I can really feel the difference (I've almost lost 5 lbs now), and I am starting to get into a groove like I did last time. It takes working out 6 times a week and eating very carefully, but it is possible. It really does take a lot of effort to lose significant amounts of weight. Here's to hoping I never have to go through this again! :)Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597287419708465911noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5731246884120508407.post-37009436767417065432014-07-28T09:19:00.003-06:002014-07-28T09:20:39.622-06:00Weight loss, week 2I am making this Week 2 instead of 3 since I had kind of a rough start with the wasp sting and what not. I lost 1.6 lbs this week. I worked out every day except Sunday and ate well. It's an okay loss, but I am hoping I can start averaging 2 lbs a week.Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597287419708465911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5731246884120508407.post-48855550877619805742014-07-27T16:33:00.002-06:002014-07-28T09:16:02.242-06:00Luke at 3 months!Luke is three months old already! Yikes! Lots of pictures in this one -- I've been behind on posting updates on Luke.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Luke is an adorable and happy baby. He is now sleeping anywhere from 4-7 hours a night in his bassinet. Then when he wakes up to eat, I usually (hmm, always...) fall asleep with him on me while I'm burping him. At that point he sleeps with me the rest of the night. That means I don't get great sleep from that point on, but I'm happy he's sleeping for long stretches in his bassinet now, as he wasn't for the first two months.<br />
<br />
Putting a baby to bed awake but drowsy has never worked for me. I can't really believe it works for anyone. If he's not totally out, he'll wake up as soon as he's put down.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Two months at the dr's office</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
He is completely formula fed now. I stopped trying to breast feed at one month because he was having such a hard time gaining weight. I've had a hard time breast feeding all my kids, so I wasn't shocked. But I wanted to try for as long as I could. I breastfed exclusively for the first two weeks, even though he still seemed hungry after feeding for a long time. I wanted to make it work, but ultimately I want Luke to be happy, healthy, and growing!<br />
<br />
He loves the pacifier, unlike my other two. When he's ready for sleep and is a little fussy, plop that baby in his mouth, and his eyes roll back in his head. It's great.<br />
<br />
He started out hating bath time, like most babies, but he now loves it. Smiles like crazy until you take him out, then he screams bloody murder. But even that is getting better now.<br />
<br />
Just like Christian as a baby, he LOVES when you change his clothes. He loves getting his arms pulled out of his sleeves. I don't claim to know why -- they were both that way. I love it.<br />
<br />
Also like Christian, he has eczema. Poor guy. He also had cradle cap something fierce. It is finally clearing up with some meds the doctor prescribed.<br />
<br />
Kate and Christian are still obsessed with him. Christian has to be touching him ALL the time! Hugging, kissing, squishing. It's overwhelming. Luke's gonna have to be tough!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Kate loves to read to him (2 months). He seems to enjoy it, too. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I love his smile -- his whole face squishes up and his eyes crinkle. I don't think he has dimples like the other kids, but he has the chin cleft. Still can't tell what color his eyes are going to be, which maybe means hazel or brown? Still doesn't have much hair.<br />
<br />
He wakes up happy. When he first sees me in the morning he gives me a big, gummy grin. Great way to start my day! He is also to the point of loving mirrors.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Luke loves to blow bubbles</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
He has big (long) hands and feet. We think he looks really long, but at his two month check up only measured average. He was 10 lbs 14 oz and 23 1/2 inches tall. And, of course, has a ginormous head (90th+ percentile).<br />
<br />
He's pretty much a chill baby. He's smiley and playful when he's awake and loves to coo and goo. Fussy if he's tired, hungry, or has a burp to get out.<br />
<br />
I have a different attitude about babies this go around. I am trying to appreciate this stage more. There's a lot to appreciate about babies! I love that they sort of have to cuddle you. I like to think that he wants to anyway, though. :) We love this little guy!<br />

So my toe where I was stung and the surrounding area all swelled up and itched like crazy. It was hard to walk for a few days, but I finally got some meds from a dr, and it has gone back down to size. Phew! Unfortunately, that made it impossible to exercise, so no weight loss.<br />
<br />
But my foot started feeling better on Friday last week, so I squeezed in a couple workouts. I am going to be weighing in on Mondays this time around. So today I weighed in, and I am down one pound. Not much, but I'll take it!Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597287419708465911noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5731246884120508407.post-79915151395754635012014-07-07T16:05:00.000-06:002014-07-07T19:31:22.539-06:00Christian is FOUR!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir0GSsw3J7XPHADPmf37wheqt1RTyiQs2GPk4P72Nb-NNOdsGea7YaK_n5rxoZ0M86escXIDouBOXrRo8tbqT9r_KZa8Glspb67nuBvQ4w5VM_vKKUQDzX-aMxMvi3_c0Ng-GpQgJBcAdf/s1600/Christian-outside2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir0GSsw3J7XPHADPmf37wheqt1RTyiQs2GPk4P72Nb-NNOdsGea7YaK_n5rxoZ0M86escXIDouBOXrRo8tbqT9r_KZa8Glspb67nuBvQ4w5VM_vKKUQDzX-aMxMvi3_c0Ng-GpQgJBcAdf/s1600/Christian-outside2.jpg" height="337" width="400" /></a></div>
I can't believe it, but this little guy is turning out to be kind of a big guy these days. He is 41 1/2 inches tall (76th percentile) and 38 lbs (68th percentile)! I'm obsessed with height predictor websites, and it's looking like Christian might be 6'0" or 6'1" when he's full grown. We shall see. He has VERY large hands. There's a kid in his Sunbeam class that was born the day before Christian, and Christian's hands are crazy bigger.<br />
<br />
Christian has always been a great eater, and he continues to be. He loves to try new foods and healthy foods. He will try just about everything. He doesn't, however, want anything to do with mashed potatoes or macaroni and cheese. The other day my parents heated up some wheat rolls on their grill. The tops of the rolls got burned pretty badly. I started to cut the tops off all of them, but Christian stopped me. He said he liked burned rolls. I said okay, but was doubtful he would actually eat it all. I was wrong. He took the entire roll (with no butter or anything) and took a big bite of the blackened top. "Mmm," he gushed. Then he coughed a few times. With a mouth full of bread, he said, "I love it!" Cough, cough. Loves meat -- hamburger, chicken, salmon, you name it. But he will also eat salad and LOVES fruit. Also, anything dipped in ketchup or Ranch is sure to be a favorite. He loves his sauces!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_WKflTFSmvcroZOJwb1687lmfxynbTENZRVeD_7Xxy1LXGLVMzfni8PYCgvpc3yo4PLAqylsEzQTH9786kqbC3_5haGO9FrExYI8UDA1TfBVu8_fQoaeS4DPBma7D6gtiy1fwDwc7E8gR/s1600/Christian-looking-side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_WKflTFSmvcroZOJwb1687lmfxynbTENZRVeD_7Xxy1LXGLVMzfni8PYCgvpc3yo4PLAqylsEzQTH9786kqbC3_5haGO9FrExYI8UDA1TfBVu8_fQoaeS4DPBma7D6gtiy1fwDwc7E8gR/s1600/Christian-looking-side.jpg" height="290" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
He loves to be a big brother. I think he might be feeling a little out of sorts, though, with the addition of Luke, and he's showing it by being excessively affectionate with his baby brother. He's made a couple of comments that have made me a little worried about how he thinks of Luke. The other day Christian was warming up by a little portable heater. He said it was a good thing Luke wasn't right by the heater because he was plastic (and plastic, in his mind, would melt by the heat). I quickly replied that Luke was NOT plastic. He is a real person, with skin and bones.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The kids and I (and Grandma and Grandpa and Uncle Paul) took a ride on the Heber Creeper in May. This picture cracks me up. Christian is not trying to mean here, he just always has to be touching Luke!</div>
<br />
Another time Christian was doing something that was endangering Luke. I told him not to do it. He asked if Luke could die if he did it. I tried to explain how fragile babies are and that they <i>can</i> die a lot easier. He then said nonchalantly, "Yeah, but he'll resurrect." This panicked me a little, and I explained that if Luke died he would not be resurrecting for a LONG time. Needless to say, I keep a close eye on Luke.<br />
<br />
Christian loves to pick out his clothes and get himself dressed every morning (he especially enjoys wearing superhero t-shirts and camo pants or shorts). We have started doing chores, and he can make his bed all by himself, too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Amazing balancing act on the statue's arm. No hands! :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
He has pretty severe eczema, and it got really bad this summer, especially behind his knees (the knee pit). We were able to get it cleared up finally after a visit to the doctor and some steroid cream. In the same spot he has molloscum, which probably made the eczema worse since both things itch. Can't wait to get rid of the molloscum, but it might take several more months.<br />
<br />
He continues to loves cars, trains, and robots. He loves books and has recently really enjoyed trying to sound things out. We've done a few reading lessons, but I need to be better at doing it every day with him. He loves the trampoline and riding bikes. He is currently in a tumbling class and is signed up for soccer this fall. He took swimming lessons this summer for two weeks, and he started out great, but by the end of the first week he developed a fear of the back float. So his teacher didn't pass him, and he'll have to retake the first level next summer.<br />
<br />
He is very rambunctious, and he loves to tackle and wrestle Kate (she usually does not like this). A couple months ago, he decided to build himself a slide out of a large empty box in the office. Needless to say, a few minutes later, we heard screaming. Christian had knocked his front teeth really hard -- one of the top ones was pushed back at a cringe worthy angle and bleeding. I thought we were going to have to take the tooth out, but a couple of days later it moved back into place and didn't seem so loose. I took him to the dentist, and the dentist said he had fractures above his top teeth, so the tooth might turn grey or it might prevent his permanent tooth from coming in. We'll have to keep an eye on it.<br />
<br />
He'll be starting his second year of preschool this fall (three days a week!). He's currently a sunbeam, and his teacher has commented to us several times that he always knows the answers. Proud of our little sunbeam!<br />
<br />

He is full of energy and affection. He has a tender heart and adores his sister Kate. He mimics her often and will often change his breakfast/lunch selection based on what she's having. He also loves his cousins. He's becoming good friends with his twin girl cousins that are a year younger than him. And he loves his older cousin, Connor. Connor (12) is an amazing soccer player and is teaching Christian his fancy moves.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Christian is lounging here because his bare feet were burning on the 100 degree cement. He wasn't trying to be goofy, but it looks funny. </div>
<br />
Christian LOVES Star Wars, so I ordered Luke and Darth Vader cake toppers and decided to make a cake this year (I usually just order one from Walmart). Christian got lots of fun presents, many Star Wars related (light sabers, Jedi robe). We love our little Padawan!<br />

<br />
And I'm going to finish with what I posted on Facebook for his birthday.<br />
<br />
"Did you know everything is better when you're four? Just ask Christian -- it's his birthday. For the last hour I've been hearing, "What the heck? Oh my gosh! I didn't know I could run faster when I'm four!" followed by "I didn't know I could jump higher when I'm four!" followed by "Look what I can do now that I'm four! I can do EVERYTHING!" as he ran, jumped, and flipped outside and around the house. Love this birthday boy. He's hilarious, energetic, and sweet -- every day. I'd tell him, "You can be anything you want when you grow up" but he wants to be Darth Vader, so I'm gonna keep a lid on that for a while. Just keep the can do attitude! This kid's going places (just praying it's not the Death Star)."<br />

This post I found still in my drafts for April 23, 2013. Since I didn't actually post anything in 2013, I feel like I should go ahead and post what I did have written. This is a good reminder I need to write more about Christian! Ahh -- I'm so behind!<br />

Wow -- I can't believe how long it's been since I've blogged. I don't know where I've been! Update on my weight -- I have been able to stay within one or two pounds of my ending weight. That makes me happy! I feel like I can do this the rest of my life. It is not easy in a lot of ways -- watching everyone eat ice cream or brownies while I sit there isn't ever going to be "easy" but I know I can do it cause I've been doing it for over a year now.<br />
<br />
It makes me sad that I have not been more vigilant in posting updates on the kids, especially Christian. Kate got a lot of updates as she was growing, and I've been way more lax about it with Christian. Christian is so so sweet. Even when he is throwing a tantrum, I just can't get over how much I love this boy! He can do no wrong in my eyes (which is probably very, very bad).<br />
<br />
He loves his family, and he has such a tender heart. If Kate is crying or carrying on, he always asks what's wrong with her (he asks in a nice way not the WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU? variety). She usually screams at him to leave her alone, but instead of listening to her he always wraps his arms around her in the sweetest hug you've ever seen. Even if she won't hug him back, he presses his cheek against her tummy and holds on and pats her back.<br />
<br />
He generally only has tantrums himself when he has not taken a nap (he rarely takes one these days), and by dinner time he has had it with life. If I ask him why he's crying, he'll say, "Cause I'm sad." But lately he's been making an effort to get over it faster, and sometimes minutes later will say, while wiping his eyes "I'm a happy boy now!"<br />
<br />
He loves cars, trains, airplanes, helicopters, bikes, scooters, well you get the idea -- anything with wheels or wings. He doesn't like big noises of any kind or anything that might be slightly scary.<br />
<br />
He loves to give hugs and kisses. He loves playing games on the computer and on Daddy's ipad. He's learning a ton, probably thanks in big part to Kate who loves to try to teach him things. He's learning his letters, knows his colors, and has a great vocabulary.<br />
<br />
I love his sweet little voice and should probably spend more time recording it than I do.<br />
<br />
He loves to say prayers, even though he says the same thing every time (unless someone helps him), "Dear Heavenly Father, please bless the food. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen."<br />
<br />
He sleeps with his cars, trains, or balls every night. He is obsessed with Thomas the Train and every week will ask me (usually in a hopeful whisper), "Is it Christmas time yet?" because we have a Thomas train set that we only get out at Christmas.<br />
<br />
I am with him in nursery, and it is so fun to watch him interact with the other kids. Sometimes smaller kids will climb on him or steal the toy he's playing with, but he usually just looks up at me with a slightly worried expression. He doesn't ever hit back or yell at the kids (like other kids do). He is very patient and helpful with younger kids (like when his 18 mo old twin cousins come to visit). He will make a great big brother if we ever make that happen for him.<br />
<br />
He is kind, calm, loving, and obedient. I feel overwhelmed that I get to be his mother. He has a maturity beyond his years, that's for sure. He's two, for heaven's sake, but I have loved him at this age so much and often wish I could freeze him at this spot forever. He brings so much joy into my life.<br />
<br />
Our parenting style is loosely based on Love & Logic. I don't follow through well enough to say I follow it, but there are sometimes when Christian needs an "uh oh" or a timeout. At first, I just held him and sang the uh oh song in the bathroom. He would calm down right away, and sometimes later when he did something he wasn't supposed to he would say, "I need an uh oh." I realized this was probably not as effective as I hoped. I asked my sister about it, and she told me that ideally they should be alone in their room and should go there on their own. So I started trying that, and told him to go to his room for the uh oh. He would say, "Ok, mommy." Then go to his room. I would go in a minute later, and he would be standing perfectly still, facing the door, not crying or anything.<br />

Well, I just found this lone picture without text in my drafts for May 2013. One of two things I thought about posting in 2013, so I am going to go ahead and post it. :) I do love this picture.Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597287419708465911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5731246884120508407.post-47973453022976025342014-06-30T20:20:00.001-06:002014-06-30T21:10:19.698-06:00The Birth of LukeHere is the birth story. Not one I'm too likely to forget! (The details might get a little cloudy over time, though.)<br />
<br />
At my 36 week check-up, Dr. Skinner told me I was dilated to a three! I almost fell over. Then I began to panic. For the previous several weeks I had been actively nesting: organizing, cleaning, and preparing. I had retrieved stored clothes from Idaho, put up the crib, and donated a ton of stuff to make room for more baby things. All I had left was to buy a used stroller and borrow my visiting teacher's bassinet. When I found out I was already dilated to a three, I immediately got those things checked off also. My doctor gave me the "What to do if" speech about when to go to the hospital. He told me that if I went to the hospital this week, the nurses would not try to stop the labor. I was far enough along that they would let the baby come. I couldn't believe it. Neither Kate nor Christian came early, and I was mentally prepared to go 41 weeks (oh who am I kidding, you can never be mentally prepared for that).<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
All that week, every little contraction freaked me out. They were painful, but not regular. I avoided doing too much. I really wanted to make it to 37 weeks at least so that the baby could have the best chance. Well, 37 weeks on the nose came on Sunday, April 27th. I woke up at 3 am to a screaming Christian. Andrew had not yet gone to bed, and we both went in to check on him. I had several hard contractions, and I left Andrew with Christian, went to the bathroom, and went back to bed. I woke up just a couple hours later at 5:30 to very hard contractions -- the kind that wouldn't let me go back to sleep (I tried). The doctor said when the contractions were five minutes apart for an hour to head to the hospital. I timed them for a half an hour, and I knew it was time. I woke up Andrew, who jumped out of bed, even though he hadn't been asleep very long. We both started scurrying around (luckily I had my hospital bag packed already, but I had forgotten to pack Andrew's things...). Andrew started shaving for some reason (I think he was a little out of it), and I hurried upstairs to tell my parents that we were leaving. I felt like I had to go to the bathroom (#2), but I was worried if I tried that a baby might come out instead. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I had to deliver in Payson, which is about 20 minutes away. Those were a long 20 minutes! I was screaming and gripping the car's upholstery, and Andrew was running red lights (luckily no one was around). By the time we got to the hospital (around 6:30), the contractions were just two minutes apart! I was so glad to see the hospital and know that Andrew would not be delivering our baby in the Honda Accord (no money to buy a new car!).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We rushed inside, and there was no one around! We saw a note that said to check in at the emergency room, so we headed back outside to go there. The guy behind the desk started asking me my name, my birth date, my social security #. We got through a few answers when Andrew blurted out, "She's having a baby! Right now!" The guy stammered a bit, and said, "Oh ok. Come back later." He told us to go back to where we had gone in before and go upstairs. I was getting a little grumpy having to walk around so much while having contractions.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We finally made it to Labor and Delivery. The first nurse I saw was Miranda, my MTC companion's older sister. Miranda took me in to get changed into a gown. It was about 6:35 - 6:40 at this point. They immediately checked me, and told me I was at a +1, as in dilated to a 10 PLUS one. They told me that an epidural would not be an option at this point. I had actually always wanted to have one baby naturally to have the experience and to save money. So that worked out, I guess.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The nurses were all scurrying around, and I heard one whisper to the other (on the other side of the room), "If she pushes, the baby will come out!" They seemed a little panicked since my doctor was not there and told me to try not to push. It was so weird to experience that part of it because I felt like I almost had no control over pushing or not. My body was pushing, whether I wanted to or not! It just felt like that baby wanted out!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Luckily, Dr. Skinner lives in Payson, and he made it there in ten minutes. As soon as he arrived, bed head and all, he had me "start" pushing. It gets a little foggy here, as my brain has already blocked this out, I think. I remember them all telling me to breathe. I kept holding my breath or just screamed my guts out. Neither one was super helpful, I guess. Luckily, we were the only ones in labor and delivery at the time, because I think anyone arriving at that point would have been scared out of their mind by my bloody murder screams.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It felt like the baby was going to explode out of me. The "Ring of Fire" is a very real, real thing. It was horrible, horrible pain. By far the worst pain I've ever experienced. The doctor said that he was going to cut me a little because the baby's head was stuck a bit, and I seemed to be "struggling." Yeah, you could say that. A second later, there was a baby. Out just before 7 am. They didn't lay him on me right away, as they had with my other two babies. They whisked him off. I wonder if the reason was because he was early, and they had to make sure everything was okay. It felt like a long time before they brought him to me, but was probably only 15 minutes, I'm not sure. The doctor stitched me up, which was also very painful -- the numbing shots hurt like heck, and then one time the numbing didn't work so I just felt the whole stitch. UGH. My legs were shaking like crazy. It was about this time that I got a text from the Primary president (and VTer) asking me to prepare something for church in a few hours. I texted back and said that today wasn't going to work for me.</div>

Finally, they brought our baby over, and I got my first look at him. He was beautiful. 7 lbs 13 oz and 20.5 inches. Above 90th percentile on both. I think I was in a little bit of shock that he was there so soon (not just weeks early, but the labor was SO fast!). He was perfect. Healthy and adorable. Overwhelming.</div>

<div>
At my 36 week check up they had me tested (routine) for strep B. The results had not come back yet, but at the hospital they had the results, and I had tested positive. I should have been on antibiotics, but no one knew in time. So they were worried for the baby (we had not named him at this point). We had planned on checking out the next day to try to save money, but the nurse said that the baby might have to stay another day so they could make sure he was healthy. Luckily, the pediatrician checked him out and said he was good to go, and we could watch him closely at home to see if he developed a fever (he didn't). </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We finally decided on a name, really just because they were forcing us to before we left. Literally, on our way out the door, and we decided on Luke Elias. During my pregnancy, I had gone to the temple and was in the Celestial Room praying. I was praying about the baby, and was asking Heavenly Father to bless the baby to be a light in this dark world he'd be entering. Immediately, the spirit stopped me in my prayer and told me, "Luke means light." Luke had been a name we were considering, and I had looked up its meaning at some point. But it was that reminder at that very moment that made me feel we should name him Luke. I told Andrew about it, and he thought it was cool, but he wasn't convinced, and we kept kicking around names. At the hospital, Andrew gave the baby a blessing (we were worried about the Strep B thing), and during the blessing he felt like we should name him Luke. We chose Elias because it is a variation of Elijah, Christian's middle name. It means the same thing: "Jehovah is my God." I liked the idea of them having almost the same middle name. So there ya go.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The kids loved to meet their baby brother. When I asked Christian if the baby looked like how was expecting, he paused, then said, "He looks like a triangle!" It took us a few minutes to realize it was because of how the nurse had swaddled him in his blanket. Ha. One of the first things we noticed (and the nurses, too) was how LONG his arms, legs, and hands/feet were. I guess his feet barely fit inside the stamp card. Might have a tall guy on our hands.<br />

Yeesh. But I am going to post anyway. :)<br />
<br />
I want to write down Luke's birth story before it's all forgotten, but that will be for another day. Starting this week (today!), I am beginning a familiar journey: LOSE WEIGHT / GET HEALTHY. I have signed up for Gold's Gym, and I am going to alternate days with Jillian Michaels' videos. My goal is to get back down to where I was before I got pregnant, which means I have to lose 29.2 lbs! Yikes. That seems like a lot, but I know I can do it. I've done it before, right?? I would like to reach my goal by the end of September. THREE MONTHS. Almost ten pounds a month. That might be hoping for too much, but that's what I'll shoot for right now.<br />
<br />
If anyone out there happens to see this post and wants to join me, please do! We can keep each other accountable. I'm excited to fit into my old clothes again!<br />

Well, I didn't quite keep up with the blog as well as I intended after all my weight loss stuff ended. It didn't "end" really, as I'm still working hard at maintaining the loss. In the last 6 weeks or so, I've been able to stay right around my weight loss goal. I haven't gone over at all, but I have dipped a couple pounds at times. I eat more calories, but still try to keep it healthy. And lately I only have time to work out about twice a week, but I'm active in other ways (more info below). One of my favorite things to eat is whole wheat toast with butter and honey -- I have to stop eating so much, or I know it's going to spell trouble!<br />
<br />
So the last 6 or 7 months was my hardcore weight loss time; we've now shifted into "get ourselves out of debt ASAP" time. Our goal is to get out of consumer debt by January 2013 (we'll still have student loans...ugh.) Andrew got a new job with great pay and benefits, and I have been working 20 hours a week (for the last few weeks) in the morning at a nursing facility doing housekeeping and laundry (while my wonderful parents watch the kids). Lots of gross stories, but I'll save those for another time. I've also been hired to do another personal history book, which is my favorite thing to do. Much more fun than collecting "soiled" laundry, I've found. The history has got me thinking about my own memoir again, and I decided to finish off a chapter I had almost finished last year or whenever that was.<br />
<br />
So...this chapter does not leave off from where I was as a child. It's just what I wanted to write about next -- some about my angsty self in high school. Hope you like it! It's only had a light edit, and the formatting isn't perfect yet or anything, but here it is.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://preservedforposterity.com/Enigmaexposed.pdf">"An Enigma Exposed"</a> (click on the title) -- <span style="color: red;">Update:</span> I temporarily removed the link to the chapter earlier today, but now it's back with an updated chapter.<br />
<br />
In case you missed the first installments, <a href="http://preservedforposterity.com/pdf/blog-installment-2.pdf">here they are.</a><br />

Since I won Biggest Loser AND hit my goal on the same day, I decided to do my "final reveal" pics yesterday. I must watch too many weight loss shows. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I went and got a haircut -- FINALLY. I hadn't had it cut since before I started losing weight, knowing I would want to have a mini makeover at the end as a reward. I got some jeans that actually fit -- I've gone from a size 14 to a size 7/8 -- and some other clothes, too. I was going for this hairstyle (below), but it didn't <i>quite</i> turn out like that. I still like what I got, though. I know I will never be able to recreate what the stylist did, but oh well. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Andrew took a bunch of pics -- here are a few. Might have a few more later.</div>

It might seem strange to some that I wanted pictures of myself as a reward for losing weight, but it's because I have never had any pictures of myself that I liked. I have worked on people's personal histories, and I always get a great picture of them from their past for the cover. It's always concerned me that if I was to publish my own history, I would not have anything I would want for the cover. I realize I'm thinking 40 years in advance, but I just wanted a high quality, decent pic of myself that I could have (before I get <i>too</i> old...) -- in case I ever finish writing my history. :)<br />
<br />
Thanks all for supporting me and caring about my journey to health.Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597287419708465911noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5731246884120508407.post-26197172528815428642012-09-02T20:24:00.001-06:002012-09-02T20:29:36.277-06:00I WON!I lost 1.4 lbs this week and managed to pull out first place in the Biggest Loser competition!! Not only that but I hit my second goal on the nose for my final weigh-in. That felt amazing! I got to the pot of gold! :) To be a person who often stops myself from accomplishing something because it's too hard, I have to say that hitting TWO weight loss goals really feels good.<br />
<br />
I have lost 54 lbs total. And I feel like I'm at a good "stopping" point. I will now work hard on maintaining where I'm at. I'll keep exercising to try to tone up a bit more, but I won't be trying to lose anymore. Such a strange feeling after such a time of doing it.<br />
<br />
Here are the final results pics from the beginning of the BL competition to the end. I lost about 22 lbs from June to August. Over the summer, I'd occasionally look back at the "before" June pics, and I wondered if I'd be able to really see a difference by the end cause I didn't think 20 lbs would be as obvious as the 30 I had lost previously. I am so happy I took the pictures -- because I see a big difference. And that is motivating -- I don't want to float back up 20 lbs to a "comfortable" weight. I feel great where I'm at now.<br />
<br />
These are embarrassing, but here they are --<br />

Please don't look too closely at these...eek. Wishing I had worn exercise pants instead...but then I wouldn't have been able to see the difference as easily. I lost 6 inches off my waist this go around and something like 4 inches off my hips -- the exact measurements are packed in a box somewhere. :) Lost a good chunk off my thighs, too, but I can't remember how many inches off the top of my head. All I know is is that my legs don't touch and rub together in the middle when I walk anymore. I often wondered if I'd ever lose enough for that to be the case, and I finally got there.<br />
<br />
That's a total of ELEVEN inches just off my waist from the beginning of March. That is crazy!</div>

We are moving tomorrow, and we have been moving gradually all week. I have missed almost all of my workouts, but I still managed to lose a little -- I think mostly due to stress! :)<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
(This picture represents how I feel -- minus the dizziness and nausea that would surely accompany me if I actually was above the clouds...)</div>
<br />
Today's weigh-in marks a huge accomplishment for me. I made it to my original goal weight of 135 lbs! I lost 2 lbs on the nose. What a wonderful, uplifting, educational journey this has been for me. Life changing!<br />
<br />
I am officially changing the little tracker to my goal weight -- the girl made it to the freaking flower!! Who ever thought that was <i>actually</i> going to happen??<br />
<br />
I want to lose 6 more lbs by the end of the Biggest Loser competition -- the end of August.<br />
<br />
YAY!!<br />
<br />
Total weight lost = 47.8 lbs!<br />
<br />
Not everyone has weighed in this week yet, so I'll have to update the rankings later. Sorry!Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597287419708465911noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5731246884120508407.post-50773080780191180962012-07-27T14:48:00.001-06:002012-07-27T14:48:21.956-06:00Week 7 Biggest Loser resultsLost 2 lbs this week! Woohoo! Came in first for the week and am first overall. :)<br />
<br />
Total weight loss = 45.8Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597287419708465911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5731246884120508407.post-58061933429678779152012-07-20T14:28:00.000-06:002012-07-20T15:29:02.360-06:00Week 6 Biggest LoserThis week I lost 1.6 lbs. That means I have 4 lbs left to go to my original goal weight. I thought I might get there by the end of this month, but that is not looking very likely. I've never lost 4 lbs in a week! But that's okay. I have another month of Biggest Loser, and I hope to be down 10 more lbs by the end of that (end of August). It's my darned tummy that's the trouble! Why won't it GO AWAY?? 'Sigh.' It's getting better every week, though!!<br />
<br />
Total weight lost = 43.8<br />
<br />
Update: Woops, the standings! I finished 5th this week, but I'm still in 1st overall!Jennhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597287419708465911noreply@blogger.com3
